The phrase "it's a man's world" is often thrown around, but these funny ladies can hold their own. There have been great comedic actresses like Lucille Ball, Estelle Getty and now Tina Fey, but stand-up comedians are the focus of this most recent top 10. 1. Ellen DeGeneres Ellen is now a funny lady of daytime television with her talk show, but she is also a great stand-up comedian. She started out small at coffee houses and comedy clubs and was able to work her way up through the business. Before becoming a star with her own TV shows, she was featured on "The Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson in 1986.
2. Kathy Griffin She might consider herself on the "D list" when it comes to celebrity status, but she should be proud of her stand-up comedic abilities. She has become known for making fun of celebrities, including Britney Spears and Clay Aiken.
3. Whoopi Goldberg This Oscar Award-winning actress sits with the women of "The View," but she also does a great stand-up act. "The Word According to Whoopi" is one of her recent shows.
4. Roseanne Barr Roseanne's list of credits includes appearances on " The Tonight Show," "Hollywood Squares," "The Nanny" and "Roseanne." She is a funny actress, but she is an even better stand-up comedian. She became known early in her career for coining the term "domestic goddess" to replace "housewife."
5. Phyllis Diller Diller worked on her craft at "The Purple Onion" doing stand-up for more than 85 weeks. She has done movies, used her vocal talents in numerous cartoons and is even talented at playing the piano. She retired in 2002 at the age of 84.
6. Lily Tomlin Maybe you remember her as "Ernestine" or perhaps "Edith Ann." Tomlin has created a number of characters throughout her career. She has made a name for herself both on the big screen and on stage performing one-woman shows like "The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe."

Minnie Pearl became a cast member of the Grand Ole Opry in 1940. Some of her trademarks were the price tag dangling from her hat and her stage entrance hollering "How-DEE."
8. Margaret Cho Margaret Cho has made the stand-up rounds across the country performing at numerous clubs and campuses. Cho is known for her colorful shows and comedy routines. She is more than a stand-up comedian; Cho has become a writer, blogger and actress."
9. Wanda Sykes Wanda Sykes is a Portsmouth native that has made it big with her biting humor and acting talents. Sykes has had HBO comedy specials, been in movies like "Bruce Almighty" and "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" and starred in her own FOX show, "Wanda at Large."
